Celebrating Dr. Donald Ellingsen's Retirement After Over 30 Years of Dedicated Service
After more than three decades of dedicated service to patients and the field of orthopedics, Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists proudly announces the retirement of Dr. Donald Ellingsen. Dr. Ellingsen, an NWOS orthopedic surgeon since 1993, leaves behind a legacy of excellence in patient care, pioneering approaches to joint replacement and reconstruction, and unwavering commitment to his patients' mobility and quality of life.
Dr. Ellingsen began his journey at Washington State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. From there, he pursued his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, setting the foundation for what would become a remarkable career. His post-medical school training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, included an orthopedic surgery internship followed by a residency, equipping him with expertise that he would carry through a lifelong career in orthopedics.
Board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1995, Dr. Ellingsen’s extensive expertise covers all aspects of orthopedic surgery. He is well-regarded for his specialization in total joint replacement and adult joint reconstruction, particularly involving the shoulder, hip, and knee. Patients have sought Dr. Ellingsen for his knowledge and skill in treating knee and shoulder injuries, including complex rotator cuff injuries and sports-related conditions. His meticulous approach to surgery, coupled with a compassionate bedside manner, has earned him the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of countless patients who have regained mobility under his care.
Beyond his clinical achievements, Dr. Ellingsen’s approach has always centered on empowering patients to lead active lives. His colleagues and patients alike admire his enthusiasm for seeing others overcome physical limitations—a quality mirrored in his own active lifestyle. Outside the clinic, Dr. Ellingsen enjoys bow hunting, fishing, skiing, and hiking, activities he can now look forward to more often with his family.
